Preparing for your application

Things to note before applying online to University of Pretoria :

1. You’ll need an email address to complete the application (a student number (EMPLID) will be sent to this email address as confirmation of receipt).
2. South African applicants will need an ID number.  Foreign applicants will need their passport number.
3. There are different online application portals for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants.
4. First, you will need to register as a user before you can apply online.
5. The University of Pretoria no longer uses the NBT results for admission (read prospectus for updated requirements).

• UP applications open on 1 April of the year preceding the year of study.
• Receiving a student number (EMPLID) does NOT imply that you have been accepted by the University of Pretoria yet. Admission is a separate process that your application undergoes after being evaluated by the relevant faculty.

How to Apply

Before starting the application process, please:

• Review the admissions checklist, to take notice of all pre-requisites. You will need to have certain information ready, as well as certain supporting documents available electronically, without which you will not be able to complete your online application.

You will only be able to submit your online application once you have:

• Completed the full online application form, AND
• Uploaded all the necessary scanned supporting documents in .pdf format, AND
• Either paid the application fee by credit card OR uploaded proof of bank deposit at Standard Bank, Account Number 012602604 (see checklist).
• If you have not clicked APPLY, your form has not been submitted.

Once your application has been successfully submitted after you have clicked VERIFY and APPLY:

•  You will no longer be able to do any further editing of your application via the Online Application system.
• You will be informed by email what your allocated student number (EMPLID) is.
• You will also be sent other important procedures describing how to check your progress and application results on the student portal.

Monitoring your application

When we update your application, you will receive an email communication. Please monitor your email account closely for updates. You can also check your status online with the login credentials that we will send you after you apply. We are not permitted to disclose your application status telephonically.

Closing Dates

The closing date for applications for UP study programmes should be 30 June. This excludes the programmes in the Faculty of Veterinary Science which should close on 31 May.
