The South African Social Security Agency SASSA social grants beneficiaries every month are over 18 million.
There are many applications, especially applications for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for basic goods and services, but not all applications are approved.
Requirements
The basic requirement for approval is first that the candidate must be unemployed, between the ages of 18 and 59 and earn less than R624 per month.
How the Appeals Work
There may be valid reasons why you may get rejected, in which case you can appeal your SASSA grant application.
The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance (ITSAA) administers all R350 grant appeals intended exclusively for SRD grant beneficiaries. After the Tribunal processes your appeal, they will inform you of the outcome of your appeal electronically, within a period of 60-90 days from the lodging of the appeal.
According to SASSA, the ITSAA uses various databases to verify information provided by appeal applicants to verify their eligibility for the grant. The databases are used to confirm personal information and income information as well.
Here’s how to submit your SASSA grant appeal for April:
The April appeal can be done via the Sassa website, should you feel that the reason for your disapproval is invalid.
- Visit the Sassa website.
- Click on the green bar that says ‘click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status’
- Enter your ID number, your cell phone number.
- Then Click ‘send pin’ and wait for the SMS which will contain the verification pin.
- Enter the pin and click ‘submit’.
- Select the month you are submitting an appeal for.
- Select the drop-down arrow and choose the reason for your appeal.
- Click submit.
Appeal applicants are reminded that the R350 grant applications are re-evaluated by Sassa every month. This monthly re-evaluation aims to ensure the grant applicant still needs support.
