Job Title: Senior Doctor Advisor X2
Location: Parktown, Gauteng, South Africa

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE
The Senior Doctor Advisor is responsible for providing clinical advice and strategic direction to the Technical Division, specifically the health programmes division. The position will be responsible for providing strategic input relating to one or more programme area in the field of HIV and Tuberculosis. The incumbent will provide general technical oversight, training, mentorship for other cadres working in the programmes.

TECHNICAL WORK RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include and not be limited to the following
•Provide clinical guidance and strategic direction to Aurum’s programmes in HIV and TB clinical care
•Develop training resource material for health care providers within the field of HIV and TB management as required
•Manage implementation and adaption of training strategies for health care providers
•Mentor and supervise mentoring activities of subordinates, clinicians and other stakeholders
•Perform clinical audits where required
•Contribute to development of operational plans and assist in writing timely and accurate reports on the activities undertaken by the division
•Form and maintain positive relations with internal and external customers, public sector services and other stakeholders
•Analyse data pertinent to programme area and develop strategies for programme improvement in that area
•Identify gaps in programme areas and skills or capacity and develop strategies to address these
•Engage in programme review on a quarterly basis and provide feedback to internal and external stakeholders
•Document and disseminate best practice examples through stakeholder forums or peer reviewed journals and publications, collaborating
with research division if necessary.
•Maintain close relations with the district and sub-district public sector services and contribute to their operational plans where relevant
•Support the public health division:

  • Provide clinical guidance on HIV and TB clinical care.
  • Provide clinical guidance on HIV and TB clinical care to Aurum-supported facilities and community programmes.
  • Analyze the outputs of the programme and develop strategies to improve performance.
  • Develop, manage and implement various training and mentoring.

Qualifications/Professional Membership
•A Medical degree and a registered Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA
•Diploma in HIV management

Advantageous
•Certificate in Project Management

Work Proven Experience
•At least 6 years’ experience in HIV care and treatment
•Experience in mentoring other health professionals
•Experience in developing training resources related to the field of HIV and Tuberculosis
•A proven ability to be creative in knowledge transfer methodologies and training of peers and other health care workers
•A track record of being able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with a willingness to learn about other medical
disciplines
•Excellent analytical and writing skills

Advantageous
•Rural health experience advantageous
•Experience in Quality Improvement methodology advantageous

Other Requirements
•SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
•Basic/Advanced computer skills
•Driver’s license
•Own car
•Moderate overnight travel (up to 30%) by land or air if required
•Willing to work overtime
