Job Summary:
BDO Wealth Advisers select a number of post graduate candidates on a yearly basis in order to provide a structured career path towards becoming a CFP® registered Financial Planner within the Organisation.
This is initially a 2 year contracted position and subject to performance and the achievement of the FPI CPE Board Exam, this initial contractual position can become permanent.
The standard requirements for entry and the skills development progress required are outlined below:
Key Responsibility Areas:
1.Thoroughly understand the company’s in house Financial Planning platform – Elite Wealth.
2.Collect and maintain client data through the company’s in house Financial Planning platform – Elite Wealth.
3.Become completely familiar with the company’s Processes and Compliance Ethos.
4.Work closely with one or more existing Financial Planners in order to learn the Financial Planning Process, client interaction and regular client Reviews.
5.Attendance at all client related events and training programmes.
Team Responsibilities:
1.Become part of and participate in all team related activities to ensure that the team Ethos is developed.
2.Be prepared to undertake additional project work and associated functions.
Growth Responsibilities:
1.Work towards sitting and passing the FPI Board exam for admittance to the CFP® designation. (This is a compulsory contractual requirement)
2.Be prepared to study for and pass the FAIS Regulatory Exam 5 for Representatives.
Requirements:
Minimum Entry Requirements:
1.B. Com (Honours) in Financial Planning or equivalent.
2.Higher Diploma in Financial Planning (If Honours have not been obtained)
Measurement of Performance:
1.Half Yearly management appraisal related to performance, progress & knowledge gained (This will be assessed by the allocated Financial Planners and the Business Manager)
2.Ability to manage the workload and requirements as laid down or requested via the allocated Financial Planners.
3.Completion of Academic requirements.
Required Skills:
1.Good knowledge of the Financial Planning Industry, financial products and financial planning concepts, as well as investments, tax and general financial analysis.
2.Completion of all required academic qualifications with the contractual period of two years.
3.A work ethic that ensures accuracy of work produced and adherence to stipulated turnaround times.
General:
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with well qualified and knowledgeable Financial Planners and Practice Managers, as well as being given the opportunity to develop hands on skills to become Financial Planners after a reasonable period of time and subject to recommendation by allocated Financial Planners and Mentors.
A successful candidate will possess an ambition to become a Financial Planner and will understand what it takes to carve a career within this demanding profession.
