The Central University of Technology (CUT) and the University of Johannesburg (UJ), in their quest for contributing to the Fourth Industrial Revolution has collaborated to establish a Research Professor position in the area of Artificial Intelligence at CUT with secondment at UJ. A mutual agreement will be reached on the time spent at each university.

Job Summary:
Main task:
1. Conduct extensive activities to support and promote research and innovation in the area of Artificial Intelligence
2. Teaching and administration responsibilities
3. Multidisciplinary teaching activities through collaboration between the two universities and beyond
4. Postgraduate education
5. Supervision of postgraduate students at masters and doctoral level
6. Develop the postgraduate education – research – innovation nexus, through mentoring of postgraduate students, yielding, through the Technology Transfer Offices, to a culture of technology start-ups
7. Supervision and partnership with postdoctoral research fellows
8. Conduct leading research in areas aligned to Artificial Intelligence producing recognised research outputs (DHET accredited journals, book chapters, books)
9. Advance the discipline through community engagement and active participation in voluntary associations / professional societies
10. To further the research work, attract external funding from government and private sectors both nationally and internationally.
11. Assist in enhancing the interdisciplinary Centre for Sustainable Smart Cities 4.0.
12. Ensure generation of high-quality research outputs with emphasis on reporting of innovation, citations, collaboration impact and entrepreneurship

Note: CUT applies an internal parity model to determine remuneration that complies with the principle of “equal pay for work of equal value”. Requirements:
Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or
Experience:
•Doctoral degree in relevant (Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, product development) field
•At least 8 years’ research / teaching / lecturing experience in the relevant subject field, including
5 years in research & development and 3 years managing a research team
•Proven record of research outputs in line with CUT’s promotion requirements for Professor
•Proven record of completed post-graduate studies supervision
•Experience in leading/managing externally funded research projects
•Involvement as an editor/reviewer/external examiner
•An NRF-rating of minimum C or substantially at the level of researchers who are unequivocally recognised by their peers as leading international scholars in their field for the high quality and impact of their recent research outputs
•Proven record of external funding applications, awards, and management
•Track record in attracting postgraduate students and postdoctoral research fellows
•Professional registration with relevant professional body
Desired Qualification/ Knowledge & Experience:
•Doctoral degree in relevant (Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, product development) field
•10 years’ research / teaching / lecturing experience in the relevant (computer science or computer systems engineering) subject field, including experience in the management a research centre/unit
•Evidence of extensive completed postgraduate (Masters and Doctoral) student supervision
