In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.
The HSC research programme specialises in research on the social determinants of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis. The research strives to address these health problems at their source, namely, at both the social and population levels. It also includes social aspects of delivery models for biomedical interventions to optimise the delivery of interventions. HSC is based in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Sweetwaters.
The HSC research programme will be implementing the South African National HIV prevalence, Incidence, Behaviour, and Communication Survey (also known as SABSSM VI).

Job Summary:
•Overall coordination of project activities and support the efficient and effective implementation of the survey.
•Provide high-level feedback to the co-principal and principal investigators on survey progress at least weekly and more often if required.
•Contribute and attend study planning and operational meetings.
•Facilitate and report any adverse events that may occur to the HSRC Research Ethics Committee.
•Management of Provincial Ethics applications and facilitate communication with provincial departments of health regarding the survey.
•Develop, monitor and ensure compliance regarding standard operating procedures implemented during the survey.
•Provide guidance and support to field teams on the implementation of the survey.
•Promote good practices in the implementation of the survey.
Requirements
•Qualifications: Minimum Master’s degree in Social Sciences.
•Have 8-10 years of experience in managing and coordinating SABSSM or similar surveys.
•Have 5 years of experience in managing ethical and approval processes for large scale surveys.
•Have the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
•Have 8-10 years of experience in managing and supervising large teams.
•Good report writing skills and publication record.
•Good communication and conflict resolutions skills.
•Be available for the specified contract period.
