In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’ in South Africa and the region, the Research Programmes of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act No.17 of 2008.

The HSRC is seeking an experienced Artisan plumber technician responsible for perform various functions to see to it that plumbing systems and related equipment and facilities work effectively and efficiently.

Job Summary:
Key responsibilities:
•The Plumber will install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures in the building.
•Reads blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems.
•Plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls.
•Fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in the building.
•These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids.
•Plumbers work in cooperation with other trades and labourers to ensure that all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of any project.
• Providing adequate services to ensure that all water supply networks and waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.
•Assemble, position and seal valves, pipe fittings and pipe to install and maintain plumbing system,
•Mend burst pipes, broken ball valves and open clogged drains to repair and maintain plumbing,
•Maintain supply water pumps, valves, pipes and reservoir tanks to ensure water supply to all systems.
•Maintain sewerage and storm water system by regular servicing and cleaning to prevent flooding and malfunction.
•Replace tap washers, p-traps, urinals and flush master valves, pipefittings and seals to repair and ensure a serviceable water reticulation system,
•Responsible for observing and following all safety regulations with required PPE.
•Review building plans and specifications to determine the layout for plumbing and related materials
•Install, repair and maintain water heaters and conditioners
•Test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks
•Maintain all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation
•Perform scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures
•Apply all codes to installations, repairs and maintenance
•Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met
•Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported and graded
•Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate codes and environmental protection,
•Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet requirements
•Administer and schedule work
•Prepare orders of supplies, Keep daily reports and Schedule work in cooperation with other trades and suppliers
•Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:
Key Requirements:

•Grade 12 matric certificate, Minimum N3 Plumbing certificate and plumbing Trade test certificate it’s a requirement,
•Driver’s license code 8 or 10.
•2-3 years of progressively responsible journey level plumbing experience; OR education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
•Must be available to work day and night shifts, weekends, call-outs and overtime.
