The Child and Youth Care Supervisor assumes responsibility for the day to day operation of the Care Workers. The Supervisor is responsible for program planning, working effectively with staff, working with families and children, connecting with the community, mentoring Care Workers and administrative responsibilities related to the day to day operation of the ReACH Programme.
The Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership in keeping with the philosophy of the Early Learning and Child Care Program at a community level as well as for quality client service to foster success. We are currently recruiting for a vacancy in the sub-district of Umhlathuze in King Cetshwayo District.

Duties and Responsibilities
Administration:
•Assist the Coordinator with the development and monitoring of the Child and Youth Care Workers schedule.
•Ensure that adequate records are maintained and compiled for the Coordinator so that they can report to NACOSA.
•Maintain provincial standards aligned to Department of Health.
•Maintain a safe and healthy environment for CYCW and to create a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.
•Regularly contact, and act as a resource for, parents and caregivers.
•Encourage parental/guardian involvement in the Child Care programs.
Program Development, Planning and Implementation:
•Plan and implement a program that reflects the philosophy of the ReACH Program.
•Ensure that records are kept on all children in the program.
•Assist the Community Linkage Officer in working towards implementing PDSA aims for the cluster in which the Care Workers work.
Staff Supervision:
•Manage care workers resources effectively to ensure that they work as members of a team, have input into planning and have opportunities for improving their professional skills.
•Provide coverage for absent Child Care Workers when required.
•Conduct staff meetings at least once a month and to support professional development.
•Provide support and direction to care workers regarding child development.
•Provide feedback and input to the Coordinator for annual appraisals on each care worker.
•Assist the Coordinator with the hiring process and to make recommendations on staffing.
•To be aware of, administer and comply with CBO personnel policies and collective agreement provisions
Public Relations:
•Promote a positive image of the ReACH Programme to the public.
•Maintain adequate liaison with the appropriate agencies, professional associations and other child care programs in the cluster.
•Be knowledgeable, informed, and current on child care philosophy.
Performance Competencies and Criteria
1.Demonstrated ability to set and meet goals evaluated through ongoing and annual supervisory feedback and achievement of business plan objectives and agreed upon professional/personal goals.
2.Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions and to follow through on decisions made.
3.Demonstrated knowledge of the profession and ability to apply that knowledge in the Program.
4.Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills to be evaluated through staff and client feedback on an ongoing and annual basis.
5.Demonstrated teamwork with internal and external contacts – being able to work collaboratively with others in a participative environment to be evaluated through peer feedback on an ongoing and annual basis.
6.Demonstrated organizational abilities to be evaluated by maintaining necessary documentation and providing reports to supervisor for agreed upon intervals as well as keeping hard copy and electronic files in an orderly fashion.
7.Demonstrated ability to be tactful – being respectful and polite when dealing with people; and being able to appropriately deal with people in difficult situations to be evaluated through client feedback on an ongoing and annual basis.
Minimum qualifications required to perform the deliverables of this job should include:
1.Formal training in Early Childhood Development
2.1-3 years’ experience in the child care profession
3.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
4.Excellent organizational skills and initiative
5.Creative problem solving skills
