NSFAS Funded Courses and requirements for 2024/2025 are available online. To be funded for 2024, National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) requirements must be met and applications be sent before the closing date.
NSFAS, As of the 2021 academic year, no longer provides funds for postgraduate courses. This includes postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas, honours degrees, masters and PhD degrees. They are however required to contact and apply through the National Research Foundation (NRF). Visit www.nrf.ac.za for application dates.
National Student Financial Aid Scheme requirements for funding depend on your programme type. Therefore, you must know NSFAS-funded courses and application requirements. The Management of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme is expected to publish its programme admission requirements online.
Unless stated otherwise, the Eligibility Criteria as documented as of the 2023 academic year is effective.
Courses Funded by NSFAS
NSFAS funds Ministerial approved programmes and students must refer to each college, however, the generally funded programmes are below:
- Engineering Studies – (National Certificate -Vocational) NQF levels 2-4 & Engineering studies – Report 191 N1-N6
- Engineering and Related Design; Electrical Infrastructure; Civil Engineering Construction and Information Technology & Computer Science
- Business & Utility Studies (National Certificate – Vocational) NQF levels 2-4 & Report 191 N1-N6
- Management; Marketing; Finance; Office Administration; Economics & Accounting; Education & Development; Hospitality; Tourism; Safety in Society and Transport & Logistics
- Pre-Learning Programme (PLP) funding through NSFAS
Application Requirements 2024 / 2025
When you meet the requirements, completing your application according to the provided instructions ensures that you receive funding.
Below is the list of what we could call application-supporting requirements. NSFAS will not be able to process applications without an ID number.
To apply, you require the following:
- Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results (currently Grade 12 students need not submit this).
- A certified copy of the identity document.
- Certified copy of Identity Document of each household member including parents or legal guardian

Generally, you must be a South African citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee. You also need to be enrolled or intend to enrol at a public university or TVET college. Meeting these criteria is essential to proceed with the application.
